Normally to answer this question, "who is your family?", we would be
directed to our biology, our parents, our spouses (husbands and wives),
our children, our brother and sisters, our uncles and aunts, and our cousins
to determine who our family is.
But if you have rendered obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ, your
family takes on a new dimension, because you have been spiritually adopted
into the family of God through Jesus Christ –
Galatians
4:1-7;
Romans
8:14-15.
It is an additional blessing when your biological family has obeyed
Christ and is a member of God’s family. In
II Timothy
1:3-5, Paul describes the faithfulness of some in Timothy’s family.
However, in a number of instances, many that obey the gospel of Christ,
are the only one’s in their family to become a true Christians, which at times
may create friction with biological family members who are outside of the
family of God. Because they have made a decision, to put God first in
their lives instead of following the religion or denomination of their parents
– Matthew
22:37. In
Luke
14:26, Jesus teaches us we must love our biological family less, and love
God more if we are to be His disciples.
Oftentimes a profound lesson is learned after we have been converted to
Christ, and it is that your spiritual church family (the family of God) is
your real family. For the Christian, your real
family are those who Obey the will of the Father –
Psalm
119:63.
In conclusion, Jesus teaches whom His family was –
Luke
8:19-21.
